IIDEX GOES NATIONAL! - Big changes have been underway since our 2009 IIDEX/NeoCon Canada exposition and conference. One of the most important changes is the transfer of ownership of IIDEX/NeoCon Canada to IDC, the Interior Designers of Canada, creating Canada’s largest national exposition and conference for the design, construction and management of the built environment. IIDEX/NeoCon Canada's mandate is to serve the interests of interior design, architectural, facility management, real estate development and business communities through an annual exposition and conference which takes place at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto
The 2010 exposition also welcomes the return of the Green Building Festival and Light Canada, two expositions and conference which have enjoyed tremendous growth over the past several years through their partnership with IIDEX. Our 2010 exposition will also feature many new products and exhibitors, expanded feature areas, special events, tours, awards ceremonies and our ever popular international keynote lecture series plus a CEU accredited conference covering all aspects of design, architecture, facility management, lighting and sustainable design.

Green Building Festival Expands!
IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and the Green Building Festival have forged a strategic partnership to advance the educational opportunities on sustainable design and architecture, offer an expanded range of exhibitors focused on sustainability, and develop site tours to create one of the largest green building and design events in Canada. This partnership will continue to enhance the Festival experience by providing greater access to sustainable technologies, products and service suppliers, while still maintaining the high quality conference program.

With over 100 Canadian and international exhibitors, Light Canada delivers not only cutting edge design solutions, but will also showcase the monumental advances in sustainable lighting, LED technology, new materials and advances in lighting design. Rounding out Light Canada, IES Toronto and IIDEX will be offering a CEU/LC accredited seminar stream developed by industry experts covering all aspects of lighting design, applications, technology and case studies. The Light Canada seminar stream ensures seminar attendees are up-to-date on the latest lighting education on lighting design, engineering and technology.

ATMOSPHERE will be a yearly symposium in the Faculty of Architecture, at University of Manitoba, to be held each February. We encourage people from the disciplines represented in the Faculty to submit abstracts – and to attend, as well as those outside of these traditional environmental design disciplines.

Atmosphere is the consequence of the projects we make as designers of landscapes, cities, architecture and interiors. Atmosphere is hard to grasp, and even harder to talk about - yet the production of atmosphere, intended or not, is one of our most apparent contributions to the world. It is something that lingers after the program has changed or the client has left. Though palpable, atmosphere resists registration. So fragile and dependent on the world around, atmosphere is also susceptible to our individual perception. It is not something that can be read or interpreted. It is.

ATMOSPHERE has been planned over a three-day period starting with a Thursday evening registration and the main invited lecture event. There will be two streams of speakers throughout the next two days. Invited lecturers would be woven through these streams. We hope that students across Canada and from the Midwest in the United States will attend. The range of speakers and topics will supplement students design education. This event can possibly become a highlight of the winter term.

The output from ATMOSPHERE would be the event itself and the Conference papers published yearly prior to the Symposium. However, every five years we propose to collect the most memorable papers and invite authors to expand or elaborate their work to be included in a ‘reader’ that would be published by an international publishing house.

The intent of ATMOSPHERE is to also provide a venue for students to hear, to meet participants with a perspective perhaps different from what they are normally exposed to. The excitement of such an event can also encourage students to submit their own work to this or other symposiums/ conferences. We also hope that the success of the event will help to further develop a sense of pride and belonging to this Faculty.

ATMOSPHERE will provide a venue for local practitioners to see more of what is going on in the Faculty and in the global context that the speakers will be drawn from. We hope to attract practitioners, academics and students nationally and internationally as participants. This event will also provide a window into what we do to other members of the University of Manitoba community.

To submit abstract and further information, go to:
www.atmos.ca
Please pass on this message to all that may be interested.
