What is Lean Project Delivery? Why should I care?

Productivity in the building industry over the past five decades has flat-lined or declined relative to all other non-farm industries – regardless significant innovation and technological advancement. Seventy percent of all projects end over budget and delivered late. The building industry is a fragmented, adversarial process that commonly results in dissatisfied building owners and disappointment or bitterness for everyone involved - designers, builders and suppliers. No one really wins. Research has concluded this lack of productivity is due to a number of root causes. In excess of 50% of planning, design and construction processes is consumed in waste.

SBM Panel – How Much Energy Efficiency is Enough?

Energy efficiency in any project is always a hotly debated issue, be it residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial. Usually, the questions are along the lines of cost rather that the effectiveness of or impact of the source.

Our Panel bring perspectives from project Inception (Cindy Choy), Construction (Carmine Militano), and Operation (Mark Pauls). At each stage decisions and actions can profoundly affect the energy consumption for the short term and long term performance of a project.

The Panel will discuss energy efficiency Measures, Reporting, Technology, plus much more.

We'd like to hear from you, so send us your burning questions to ask to the Panel at and be ready for the discussion and the Mixer that follows!  

2018 Partners Program Interdisciplinary Meet & Greet

Partners Program is once again hosting the Meet, Mingle & Mentor event. This event was developed on request of the students to invite local practitioners to share their experiences, field questions, and, review resumes, cover letters and portfolios.  At the event, you will mingle over drinks, then meet and network with students in their final year of their Environmental Design degree & the Faculty of Architecture Graduate Programs (Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture).

IES January Luncheon Topic: Lighting Education Toward's 2020
With the latest in technological advancements and physiological research in the lighting field, the need for unbiased lighting education has never been more acute. Who are you to believe when “experts” offer not only differing views, but polar opposite? With LED technologies and the questions of life, lumen depreciation, colour and even the effects on health, there has never been a time when the necessity for succinct lighting education has been more vital.
Presented by: Tom Butters, LC, MIES – Director of Education for IES 
Tom Butters, LC MIES, is the Director of Education for the IES. He is responsible for developing and delivering lighting education to the IES membership and the public at large in a multitude of modern modalities. Prior to his appointment at the IES, Tom was the Director of Canlyte/Philips Lighting Concept Centre in Toronto from 1999 to 2016. He is the immediate Past President of the IES Toronto Section and an awarding winning presenter and lighting educator.

MASI Design Awards 2017

With 52 submissions in 9 different categories from three different provinces the inaugural Manitoba Alberta Saskatchewan Interior Design Awards of Excellence proved to be a successful endeavour.  Congratulations to the PIDIM members from Glenat Duxbury and Number Ten Architectural Group for their wins at the 2017 MASI Design Awards.
